There are a number of reasons why you might receive an error message during the download process, find that the process hangs, or receive an error message when you try to unzip or open the file. Simply redownloading may solve the problem, but check the following issues to see if they may apply:
- The temporary internet file cache is too small to contain the file as it downloads.
- Enlarge the temporary internet file cache: In Internet Explorer go to Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Temporary Internet Files > Settings, and increase the "Amount of disk space to use" setting to 150 MB. (The default is 50 MB.)
- You are using a download manager or download accelerator.
- Download without the assistance of the manager or accelerator and this should solve the problem.
- The browser you are using cannot handle such a large download file.
- Try downloading using another browser (for example Firefox instead of Internet Explorer).
- There is not space available on your drive to expand the installer into the default TEMP directory.
- Clear your default TEMP directory and free up space on your hard drive.
- You are selecting Open rather than Save when asked if you would like to open the file or save to your computer.
- Select the option to Save the file, then open the file when it has downloaded to your hard drive.
- Your computer may not have the system requirements needed to install.
- Check the system requirements page Click Here. You may need to upgrade your system or download the file on another machine.
- If you are using a Modem you may need to decrease the transmission speed.
- Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel and open Modems.
- Click Properties and select the Connection tab.
- Click Port Settings and bring the Receive Buffer slider down a notch.
- Hit OK and try your download again.
- Once your file has been successfully received, you can go back in and increase the buffer settings back to where they were.
- Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel and open Modems.
- There is a software conflict with third party software.
- You may need to remove the conflicting software or download the file on another machine.
Packaged(Compressed) Files
For some purchases we package MP3 files together for better download speed and ease. These files are compressed in an open source format (.tar.gz) and will need to be uncompressed to be used.
1. To deal with packaged files, you need a special program or 'utility' to 'unzip' the files.
(Mac and Linux have built in support.)
2. The best known are 7zip(Free) & Winrar(Purchase).
Uncompressing files
1. Start up your program.
2. Choose FILE\OPEN, and locate your zipped file.
3. In our example it's C:\TEMP\filename.zip
4. Choose EXTRACT FILES from the menu bar.
5. Extract files to C:\SOMEWHERE
6. It all happens very quickly!
7. Then open a program which will read your files.
